Neuroplasticity is the ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization.
In other words, you can change the synaptic connections in your brain that determine everything from your personality to how you brush your teeth. These connections are “plastic” (i.e malleable), not fixed like a circuit board. This means that those pesky habits you’ve been struggling with, can be changed. Therefore, you can rewire your brain as well as your life.
Past events that wired sequences of neurons in your brain form the way we respond to stress now. However, this wiring is not “hard” wired, its “soft” wired and can be changed. This means that if you have a habit of stress eating, it doesn’t have to define you. Or if your first response to too much work is to freeze, that can be changed.
Wouldn’t it be nice to upgrade your neural operating system? While we update our computers regularly, we tend to forget about our brains.
